Recommended Gear: Everyday Carry Knives

Almost everyone that has carried a knife with them on a regular basis can agree that an everyday carry knife is almost necessary for all the tasks that we humans have to take on each day. Personally, I love a good everyday carry knife, so much so that I have two knives that I switch off carrying because I can’t decide which one I like more. Problems, am I right?!

My two favorite and recommended everyday carry knives are the CRKT Ignitor and the CRKT Fulcrum 2 Compact. While these knives might not be the most expensive or popular everyday carry options, they are both amazing and useful knives that can do everything that I need them to on a daily basis.

When it comes down to what knife you will carry around with you daily, it is mostly personal preference. Most knives made by reputable companies will get the job done and work well for everyday carry, these are just my personal recommendations and favorites.

My Two Recommended Everyday Carry Knives

While it is just a personal opinion, I prefer my everyday carry knives to be folding knives. I just find that folding knives are easier for me to carry around and I’m not going to be doing anything too intense on a daily basis, so a folding knife will work just fine for me.

CRKT Ignitor

I’ve had the Ignitor for a while now and it is still impressing me just as much as it was when I first received it.

It’s just a really sturdy and durable folder that is also very versatile. I’ve carried it around with me off and on (switching between the Ignitor and the Fulcrum 2) and I am very impressed with its ability to just tackle any task that I put in front of it.

The form factor of the Ignitor is also super great and it fits in my hand and pocket with ease. Even if I’m doing something that takes a lot of work or pressure on the knife, the handle doesn’t feel uncomfortable to hold.

Overall, the CRKT Ignitor is a really useful, durable, and easy and comfortable to use folding knife that makes an excellent everyday carry blade.

CRKT Fulcrum 2

The CRKT Fulcrum 2 and the Fulcrum 2 Compact (just a smaller version of the Fulcrum 2) are really great knives for everyday carry and general use.

If you are doing jobs commonly that take a little bit more of a durable knife, I would definitely choose the CRKT Ignitor over the Fulcrum 2. That is not to say the Fulcrum 2 isn’t durable, it is just not ideal for super-intensive tasks.

While the Fulcrum 2 is a super cool and useful blade on its own, the thing that sets it apart from others similar to it is its unique opening system. The blade on this knife is also very strong and durable and also holds a nice edge for a long time. For a full review of the CRKT Fulcrum, check my article about it here

Overall, the CRKT Fulcrum 2 is a really great knife for everyday carry. The materials that it is made of are nice and top quality and the unique opening system is a nice feature that is sure to impress your friends.

Below are some of my favorite that I recommend if you already own the Ignitor and Fulcrum 2, don’t like them for some reason, or just want some more amazing everyday carry knife options.

How to Choose the Perfect Everyday Carry Knife

Each person has a different set of needs that they want their everyday carry knife to be able to complete. This means that there is no one size fits all knife that will make the perfect everyday carry knife for everyone.

Below are the few things that I like to look at in a knife before I consider it a candidate for an everyday carry knife for me. There are obviously more things to consider that the things listed, but they are a good starting place to get your mind moving.

Fixed Blade or Folding?

The first thing that I consider when choosing a new everyday carry knife is whether it should be a fixed blade or a folding knife. When deciding this, it really comes down to what you will be using your knife for as well as personal preference.

Most tasks that you will encounter will be able to be completed with either a folding or fived blade knife. If these are the only types of tasks you intend to do with your knife, just base your choice on personal preference. However, if you want to be able to use your knife for intensive and harder things, you might want to go with a fixed blade knife for everyday carry just for the added strength and stability.

For me, being able to just slip it into my pocket and have it be lightweight is really important so I prefer a folding knife as my everyday carry blade. But it really comes down to what you want to do with your knife as well as what you prefer.

Materials and Build Quality

The next thing that I look at in a knife is the build quality of it and what materials it is made of. For an everyday carry knife, you typically want it to be pretty sturdy and made of good materials. This will ensure that you get a lot of miles out of the knife and will make you more confident that your knife can handle most of the tasks that you will commonly run into.

Everyday carry knives are constantly being banged around in your pocket as well as being used for some pretty strange tasks, so it is probably a good idea to find a knife that will hold up pretty good.

Blade Type and Grind

The type of blade that you have on your everyday carry knife will reflect what tasks you will be able to complete with ease. If you are doing tasks often that will need a bit of a saw-like blade to cut through things, I would consider a serrated or partially serrated blade.

For me, I don’t intend to do a lot of cutting or activities where a serrated blade would come in handy, so I prefer and blades with non-serrated edges. But again, that’s just me and it all depends on what you intend to use your everyday carry knife for.

Aesthetics

Last of all, but still a very crucial part I think, is the aesthetics of the knife. I mean, if this is your everyday carry knife you are likely going to be carrying it almost everywhere and you would hate to have an unfashionable knife on you. Just choose a knife that you wouldn’t mind being seen with.

The mistake that a lot of people make is choosing a knife based solely on how it looks. Actually, now that I think about it, I have done that as well. Well then, let me just tell you that the functionality of an everyday carry knife should come before how it looks. You will thank me later.

Conclusion

Overall, everyday carry knives are very subjective, but this was my attempt at sharing some of my favorite knives for everyday carry after trying so many different blades. My absolute favorite knives for everyday carry are the CRKT Fulcrum 2 and the CRKT Ignitor.

It can often be quite confusing sometimes because there are so many different options out there, but these are some of my favorite knives for everyday carry that I can recommend without hesitation because they are all just that good.
